What is Amputee?
The concept of people with disabilities is currently a very controversial concept in many countries and so far there is no unified concept of people with disabilities that applies to all countries. There are differences from country to country regarding disability attitudes, regulations regarding the status and severity of a disability, as well as the use of descriptive words.
According to the World Health Organization classification, there are three levels of impairment: impairment, disability, and handicap. Defect refers to the loss or abnormality of body structure related to psychological and/or physiological. Disability refers to a decrease in functioning as a result of the impairment. Handicap refers to the disadvantage or disadvantage of a person with a disability due to the impact of the surrounding environment on their disability.
In view of the International Organization of Persons with Disabilities, people with disabilities become disabled due to a lack of opportunities to participate in social activities and lead a life like other members. Thus, disability is a complex phenomenon, reflecting the interplay between physical features and social features in which people with disabilities live.
Disability issues around the globe
People with disabilities are one of the most disadvantaged groups in the world. People with disabilities have poorer health outcomes, lower levels of education, less access to economic activities, and higher poverty rates.
More than a billion people live with disabilities: The number of people with disabilities corresponds to about 15% of the world's population, about 110-190 million people have great difficulty in functioning. Disability rates tend to increase, due to population aging and the global increase in the incidence of chronic diseases.
People with disabilities are vulnerable people who are disproportionately distributed: Low-income countries have a higher proportion of people with disabilities than high-income countries. People with disabilities are more common in women, children, the elderly, and the poor.
People with disabilities often do not get the best health care when they need it: Half of the people with disabilities cannot afford health care services. Globally, people with disabilities are three times more denied health care than people without disabilities.
Children with disabilities are less likely to go to school: Education completion gaps are found in all age groups everywhere for children with disabilities, which is even more pronounced in poor countries. In India, the percentage of children with disabilities attending primary school ranges from 10%, in Indonesia up to 60%.
People with disabilities are vulnerable to poverty: People with disabilities have lower living conditions, including lack of food, housing difficulties, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation. Poverty is caused by the costs of medical care, assistive equipment or personal support, in general, people with disabilities are poorer than people without disabilities of the same income level.
Rehabilitation maximizes function and supports independence for people with disabilities: In many countries, rehabilitation services are inadequate for people with disabilities. Data from 4 countries in Africa show that only 26–55% of people with disabilities receive rehabilitation services, only 17–37% receive assistive devices (e.g. wheelchairs, wheelchairs, etc.) prostheses, hearing aids).
People with disabilities can live and participate in the community: 40% of people with disabilities often do not have their support needs met for daily activities. In the United States, 70% of adults rely on family and friends for support with daily activities.
Breaking down barriers for people with disabilities
To ensure that people with disabilities have access to mainstream services; invest in disability-specific programs; apply the national strategy and action plan; improve staff education, training, and recruitment; provide adequate funding; improve public awareness and understanding of disability.
