War happens a lot.

In 1778 the islands were found by a British captain named James Cook. He drew maps as well as published the coordinates of the archipelago to the whole world. The first name of the island of Hawaii was given by James Cook as Sandwich.

Since then, throughout the five generations of the kings of the Hawaiian Islands, they have taken the name Kamekameha. Until King Kamekameha V died childless, leading to the next king being decided by the people's vote, which was King Lunalilo and then the House of Kalākaua.
