What day of the year is National Espresso Day?

National Espresso Day, observed annually on November 23rd, commemorates espresso and the espresso machine that have kept all espresso fans motivated for work or any miserable day!

Why is it called Espresso Day?

Espresso is a popular choice among working people since it provides the jitters and vibrations required to meet deadlines! Espresso Day honors the history of espresso and the numerous coffee beverages created by it!

It's intriguing that espresso did not receive its name from a distinct type of coffee bean or from the rate at which it was roasted. Espresso is derived from the Italian word "e' spresso," which means "in a hurry"! Angelo Moriondo created the first coffee machine in the nineteenth century, using steam and water separately to prepare the coffee. However, his system was not configured for individual serving.

Luigi Bezzera invented the coffee machine in 1901 to deliver instant coffee to individuals. Luigi desired to reduce employee downtime for coffee breaks and hence increase production, which resulted in the invention of the first espresso machine! The use of high-pressure water to combine the ground coffee beans improved the taste! Desiderio Pavoni later acquired this patent and commenced commercial production of these devices in Milan!

When high-pressure water comes into contact with freshly ground coffee beans, a concentrated coffee brew is created, complete with crema (the froth)! The crema is critical because it adds a subtle sweetness to the harshness. Oils and concentrated sugars from the beans are used to make the foam!

Espresso machines and the Espresso we drink today are all the result of these innovations and improvisations! Thus, espresso is not about the beans; it is all about the brewing process.

Today's espresso machines are designed to accommodate freshly ground coffee beans that are made just for you! You may either drink espresso straight up or blend it to make a Cappuccino or a Latte! Even the slowest of days are enlivened with a single sip of Espresso! It's unsurprising that there is a day devoted to the Espresso!
