What is the Bible?

The name “Bible” comes from the Latin and Greek word for “book,” a fitting name, and since then the Bible has been a book for all people of all times. It is a book unlike any other.

The Bible consists of 66 different books. These include books of the law such as Leviticus and Deuteronomy, historical books such as Ezra and Acts, and poetic books such as Psalms and Ecclesiastes. , prophetic books such as Isaiah and Revelation, memoirs such as Matthew and John, and epistles (formal letters) such as Titus and Hebrews.

Who are the authors of the Bible?

There are about 40 different human authors contributing to the Bible, which was written over a period of 1500 years. Those writers were from different classes such as kings, fishermen, priests, government officials, farmers, shepherds, and doctors. All these differences have formed an extraordinary unity with many common themes woven together throughout.

The whole Bible is unified throughout because it has one author, God. In 2 Timothy 3:16, it is written that the Bible is “the inspiration of God.” Human writers wrote exactly what God wanted them to write, so God's word is pure and complete.

How many parts does the citadel consist of?

The Bible is divided into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. In short, the Old Testament is the story of a people, and the New Testament is the story of a Man. Through that people, God brought the Son of man, Jesus Christ, into the world. The Old Testament describes the formation and maintenance of the nation Israel. God promised to use the nation of Israel to bless the entire world. When the Israelites formed a nation, God chose one family from among that nation through which the blessing would come, the family of David. Later, the family of David was promised a Son of Man who would bring the promised blessing to the world.

The New Testament details the coming of the promised Son of Man. His name was Jesus and He fulfilled every Old Testament prophecy because He lived a perfect life, died to be a Savior, and rose from the dead.

Who is the main character in the bible?

Jesus is at the heart of the Bible, a book entirely about Him. The Old Testament foretold His coming as well as all the arrangements for His coming into the world. The New Testament describes His coming and His work to bring salvation to our sinful world.

In fact, Jesus was not just a historical figure nor just a human being. He is God in the flesh, and His coming is an important event in the history of the world. He Himself became a man to give us a clear understanding of who He is. What kind of person is God? He is like Jesus, Jesus is God in human form

What is the content of the Bible?

God created man and He set man to live in a good world. However, man rebelled against God because that man lost the position that God intended for him. Since then, God has placed the world under a curse because of their sins, but He has also immediately carried out a plan to restore mankind and all creation to its original good place. .

Part of God's plan of salvation was that He called Abraham out of Babylon into Canaan (about 2000 B.C.E.). God promised Abraham, his son Isaac, and his grandson Jacob (also called Israel) that He would bless the world. time through their descendants. The family of Israel who emigrated from Canaan to Egypt was also where they developed into a people.

Around 1400 BC, God led the descendants of Israel out of Egypt under the guidance of Moses to bring them to the Promised Land which was their own land called is Canaan. Through Moses, God gave the law to the Israelites and made a covenant with them. If they faithfully follow God and do not worship the idols of the surrounding nations, they will prosper. If they forsake God and follow those idols, He will destroy them.

Some 400 years later, during the reigns of King David and his son Solomon, Israel was consolidated into a large and powerful nation. God promised David and Solomon that in their descendants there would always be a ruler.

After the reign of Solomon, the nation of Israel was divided. The ten northern tribes were called “Israel” and they lasted about 200 years before God judged them for their idolatry. The Assyrian nation occupied Israel around 721 BC. The two southern tribes were called “Judah” and they lasted a little longer, but in the end, they turned their backs on God. The Babylonian nation occupied them around 600 BC.

Some 70 years later, the loving God brought the remnants of the captives back to their countries. Jerusalem was rebuilt around 444 B.C.E. and then the nation of Israel was also rebuilt. Thus the Old Testament was closed.

The New Testament begins some 400 hundred years later with the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Jesus is the promised descendant to Abraham and David, the Executor of God's plan to redeem mankind and restore creation. Jesus faithfully completed His work. He died for the sins of mankind and rose again from the dead. Jesus' death was the beginning of a new covenant (New Testament) with the world. Everyone who puts their trust in Jesus will be saved from sin and have eternal life.

After Jesus was resurrected, He sent His disciples everywhere preaching the good news about His life and His redeeming power. His disciples went all the way to proclaim the good news about Jesus and salvation. They traveled through Asia Minor, Greece, and throughout the Roman Empire. The New Testament closes with the prediction of Jesus' return to judge the unbelieving world and free all things from the curse.

Some misunderstandings about the Bible

Until now, it seems that many people think that the Bible is a book of Christian doctrine, purely a religious book, intended only for Christians - and religion is sensitive areas, we are used to calling them "the opium of the people", do not be foolish to touch - so those who are not Christians do not need and should not read the Bible. This book, which is the bed of more than a billion followers and is published all over the world, has never been sold in our bookstores. Print and electronic newspapers are afraid to publish articles related to the Bible.

In fact, such understanding is misleading and detrimental to everyone in understanding human culture and Western culture in general as well as Christian culture in particular.
