What is Unicorn?

A unicorn is an imaginary animal in the form of a horse with horns growing on its head. In many legends, unicorns even have wings and can fly.

The word Unicorn comes from the Hebrew word: re'em meaning horn, which translates into Latin as Monoceros meaning 1 horn, then converted into English into a unicorn.

What does Unicorn look like? Does Unicorn exist?

In European culture, the unicorn - unicorn or unicorn - is a mythical creature, depicted as a white horse with horns on its forehead. The unicorn may have wings, a lion's tail, or a goatee in certain depictions.

It turns out that the unicorn is a real species, but its shape will make you... disillusioned - Photo 1.

As mythical creatures, we probably also understand that unicorns are not real. But it all turned out to be wrong. In Siberia, there is a unicorn known as the Siberian unicorn. However, their form differs from that depicted in human mythology.

The Siberian unicorn is an extinct species of ancient rhinoceros (scientific name is Elasmotherium sibiricum), with an extremely large horn growing on the forehead instead of the nose like the common rhinoceros species. This is a huge rhinoceros species, reaching up to 2 meters in height, over 5 meters in length, and weighing nearly 4 tonnes.

In previous records, the Siberian unicorn was thought to have gone extinct more than 350,000 years ago. However, according to a new study published in the journal Applied Science, it turns out that this animal outlived science a lot longer. They still dominated Western Siberia 29,000 years ago.

The conclusion came after experts from Tomsk State University (Russia) found a perfectly preserved unicorn skull in the Pavlodar region of northern Kazakhstan. Experts say the find shows the unicorn's ability to survive is impressive. At the same time, it requires scientific research to find out the effects of climate change on biological distribution on a global scale.

The Mysterious Story of Unicorn

The unicorn appears in many Western and Asian works, novels, and fairy tales. To the Jews, this creature had a horn on its head, like a horse. The horn that always shines and sparkles with its white body wants this to be a symbol of purity.

Westerners consider this to be a highly wild creature and it is difficult to tame. Typically, it has wings, which only knights are capable of taming and using.

In Asian countries, it is much more gentle, docile, and brings good things.

There was a time when rumors about the horn of this unicorn had the power to cure diseases. That's why there were unicorn hunts when their silhouettes appeared. Of course, those hunts didn't yield any results because in reality, wasn't real. Today, many rhinos are exterminated for their horns to treat diseases, which may be partly due to this ancient concept.

The fantasy of this unicorn-horse creature also has a basis, as in ancient times, there were quite a few creatures with horns on their heads. It is possible that there were unicorns at some point in time, but there is no fossil to prove this.

In unicorn stories, this beautiful animal always appears flashy and splendid. Perhaps only the chosen ones can admire their beauty. This is a resilient, fearless, cunning, and incredibly brave creature. Therefore, people with bad intentions can't subdue unicorns.

In an ancient poem about unicorns, this animal used to live with humans but they can think, they see that humans always have a bad mind, fighting for wealth, being greedy,... That's why they go to another land to live and no longer want to see humans.

That is why Unicorn always carries a symbol of purity, purity, and spotlessness, a symbol of revival. Unicorn has always been a theme in children's stories every night so that when children go to sleep, they will dream of magical adventures to find this mysterious and beautiful animal.

The Mysteries of the Unicorn

Many people believe that unicorns are not real at all but exist only to add to the mystical atmosphere. It lived in times and regions similar to dinosaurs, mammoths, or as unidentified species as Bigfoot and the Lochness Monster. Still, others believe that unicorns still exist in remote areas, and can only be found by virtue and truth.

Legend has it that anyone who gets the chance to meet the Unicorn is awestruck by its beauty, and humanity has given it a reverence for the world's culture and history.

Perhaps the earliest known unicorn was by Herodotus, an African who lived in the 3rd century BC who wrote "The Horned Ass". Around the 4th century BC, the unicorn was well known in the West and continued to be mentioned in the centuries that followed. In the work of the Greek physician and historian, Ctesias, who traveled to Persia and brought back bizarre stories told by merchants who traveled throughout India. Although he could not see anyone, he described an animal and called them 'Wild ass of India' (literally 'Wild ass of India') about the size of a horse, with a body white, redhead, light blue eyes, and a straight horn on the front of the forehead, about 45.72 cm long. He described the lower part of the horn as white, the middle as black, and the top as red. As a doctor, he was especially interested in the horn because it was rumored that it protected the body against deadly poisons. Drinking cups of water cooked from this horn will gain the power to neutralize the toxicity of the poison, and the wound will heal quickly when the cup of water is poured into the wound. Ctesias describes it as being incredibly fast, untamable, and almost impossible to catch.

Soon after Ctesias's stories gained widespread popularity, the great Greek philosopher Aristotle reasoned that the Unicorn was genuine, but he did not believe in the legends of the horns' magical ability. Pliny (who was born during the pope's rule and died in 79 AD) also determined that the Unicorn existed in India in his encyclopedia’ Natural History' - literally "Historia Naturalis ). Pliny's Unicorn is a terrible creature with the body of a horse, the head of a deer, the legs of an elephant, the tail of a wild boar, and a two-cubits-long (91.44 cm) black horn. stood in front of the forehead. Both of them presented with a strong argument, a reasonable calculation, and confirmed that this animal exists. There’s no more reason to doubt the existence of a Unicorn than an elephant or giraffe just because to me if people haven't seen them, it doesn't mean they don't exist.
